INSTITUTE PRESENTATION

The commitment to high-quality research has placed the Universidad de Granada in a prominent position in terms of national rankings (3rd position in 2014) with 346 research groups. Through the Spanish Research Programme, as well as other national programmes and organizations, the University supports 165 research projects, and the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Business has provided financial support to 78 Projects of Excellence. In addition to the research work of the departments, the UGR has 12 research institutes, as well as other specific research units and centers that focus their work on specific areas. In fact, one of these institutes is the Institute of Sports and Health (iMUDS), recently built and completely provided with the best equipment.

The University of Granada has a large experience in leading and collaborating in EU projects. This university has the equipment, facilities and more important researchers with large experience to contribute in th CoCA. Francisco B. Ortega and his group (The PROFITH research group: http://profith.ugr.es) work at the Faculty of Sports Sciences and at iMUDS. They have had a major role in several EU projects, such as the HELENA (www.helenastudy.com) and the ALPHA (www.thealphaproject.net) projects, being the work packages leaders of the physical fitness assessment in young populations. Likewise, this group has worked with objectively measured physical activity as well as sleep (using accelerometry) for nearly ten years and has worked on the assessment of body composition, obesity and its related pathologies for years as one of his main research lines. In addition, the team also has experience with exercise program in Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) population, in mHealth-based exercise interventions and modification of circadian rhythms, which are major topics in the CoCA project.
